At first, I didn't want to tell anyone my posting (I'm not putting it on facebook), although I've already told those who asked. But then I remembered, I have so many kohai's here, and they should know (I know at least one person has asked me). So, here's a little kanji practice for you:
Please excuse my messy table |
I'm not sure if I can bring myself to type the name, but I'm sure most of you can figure out where it is. Since I've actually got the campus guide, so I suppose I should start reading it.
Oh, and I should start hunting for a new apartment now.
6 more weeks to go! I don't know if I'm excited or scared.
Congratulations! :D
ReplyDeleteI will be trying to pass the test this summer. ^.^"
Wish you all the best in japan!
Thank you!
DeleteI hope you pass the test :D
^_^
Congratulations, Eustacia先輩! ^_^
ReplyDeleteIt's my turn now. I'm going to try passing this year Monbukagakusho scholarship, wish me luck :D
Thank you Ian!
DeleteAll the best, I hope you get the scholarship~
do MEXT scholars need to take the university entrance exam?
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the university. Some universities have an interview, some have an exam (essay or otherwise), while some universities only look at your language school marks.
Delete^_^
oo~~~thanks for ur reply!!! ^^btw, how much money should we prepare for da first month? is the allowance sufficient?
DeleteHi! Just wanted to warn you and all other readers about the expenses of the first or first few months in Japan. I've now passed the exams, screenings and everything else (whew!) and finally am approved of going to Japan (Kyushu University, Fukuoka)... only to find out about the hidden fine print. The expenses in yen that I've been made aware of are: moving in deposit 30 000, internet membership fee 10 000+, mandatory bedding rental (???) 5 000 and most shocking of all the airport taxes that you have to reimbourse after taking the "paid for" flight to Japan. These taxes vary depending on how many changes you need to make (I've got 4!) and how costly the flight is, adding up on every transfer.
DeleteOn another note, should anyone be in this situation, be very careful if applying for MEXT in your country of birth while being a resident of another country! There will be a lot of hassle with documents and communication, and plenty more expenses. Please consider very hard if you can handle the stress, and then go for it or, alternivately, choose a different path.
Hi Llaura,
DeleteThanks for your comments(: Nice to see another person going to Kyushu University! Are you a graduate student?
^_^
To other readers: From my experience, there were additional charges, but the school and embassy let us know what they were (and how much) ahead of time, so that we were prepared.
Hi. I am taking the MEXT scholarship exam this year. I want to study international relations in Japan but I prefer studying in English therefore I am looking at G30 universities. I will be taking Japanese, English and maths. Should I take maths A or Maths B? and whats the difference between them?
ReplyDeletePlus, I am giving JLPT N4 next month. I heard that the the Japanese exam in MEXT is equivalent to the N1 - N2 level.
I look forward for your reply
Hi,
DeleteI don't think that you can choose which maths exam to take - it's decided based on what major you plan to study. If you plan to study in a G30 program, you could mark that on the application form (I believe there was a separate form for if you wish to study in English - you can skip the preparatory year that way). I really encourage you to do your studies in Japanese though, it's the best way to immerse yourself.
I was at N4 when I took the exam too! The Japanese exam had about three sections, easy, intermediate and hard. Just do your best(:

ReplyDeleteI talked to the guy at the embassy he told me that there is a 98% chance that I'll get into a university that offers courses in Japanese. Today was the application deadline here in India. For field of study I wrote ' Social sciences and Humanities'. I hope that is not a problem.
ReplyDeleteWhat all materials/books/websites did you use for N4?
Thank you so much for your help! :D
Hi,
DeleteAs long as you put something from the list in the application form, I don't think there will be a problem. For N4, I used the notes my teacher gave me and I think there was an N4 book involved - but I left most of my materials back in Singapore, so I can't remember.
All the best!
^_^

is there anything else required?
Hello,
DeleteHmm, for me, they asked for the last three years. So at the very least, I had two and a half years to give them, as well as a letter from the principal stating that I was expected to graduate. You should really ask the embassy though. It might also be written in the application forms - those and the embassy should be the first things you check/ask.
All the best!
